SEX AND THE CITY 2 EVENT CALENDAR + SATC2 MOVIE TRAILER #2 VIDEO

Posted: 24 May 2010 10:45 AM PDT

sexandthecityThe cast of Sex and the City 2 returns to the big screen this week. New York city is celebrating with a series of events including the movie premiere at the Ziegfeld Theater. SATC fans will be surprised with the return of Aidan after Carrie’s marriage to Mr. Big. The movie opens on May 27th.

The events that should make it on your calendar:

The Actual Movie Premiere
When: May 26, 2010
Where: Radio City Music Hall
Why: Let's not get carried away and forget the actual movie premiere. It promises to be a star studded event and of course, a chance to see the movie first – before everyone ruins the apparent plot twists and turns.

Release Party at the Empire
When: Friday, May 21 9 pm – 4 am
Where: The Deck at the Empire Rooftop
Why: This has good old fashioned Friday night fun written all over it. Might as well down cocktails while overlooking the Manhattan skyline to celebrate the return of the four fabulous SATC women, just remember to bring your big purse because it's all about giveaways and party swag.

For those of you who are still swooning in the wake of the Cosmo, feel free to show up at one of these events:

SATC2 Party
When: Wednesday, May 26th 8 – 11pm
Where: McFaddens
800 Second Avenue, New York
Why:Hey, why not purchase a raffle ticket with your booze? I know how we all like to feel like we're at a high school basketball game, trying to recapture our youths while precariously balanced in manolo-esque stilettos after downing all the two-for-one cocktails your $20 door ticket would allow.
A Toast to Carrie
When: Wednesday May 26th 7 – 9 pm
Where: SideBAR
118 East 15th Street, New York
Why:Are you overly curious as to what exactly Samantha would taste like as an alcoholic beverage? A strange question, but one SideBAR hopes to answer.

But hey, if you're not really into the whole drinking scene and you're more likely to spend your Friday night trying to recreate the exact red of Miranda's bob with a five dollar bottle of hair dye from Duane Reade, maybe one of these events is more your speed:

Ted Gibsons Sex and the City 2 Blowout Party
When: May 14th – 29th
Where: 184 Fifth Avenue, 2nd Floor
Why:Designed primarily for the chick that is constantly lusting over Carrie's luscious locks and just dying to sit in the same stylists chair as Sarah Jessica Parker. Who would turn down a chance to rub shoulders with B-list stars while being treated to one free glass of champagne and a mere 15% off an overpriced hair cut? Oh right, anyone not from Brooklyn.
Sex and the City Pamper Me Extravaganza
When: Friday, May 29
Where: Ripley Grier’s Studio
520 West 8th Avenue, 17th Floor
Why: The plan is to watch the first Sex and the City while munching on appetizers and getting pampered by a mobile spa. We don’t really understand … hasn’t everyone seen the first movie a dozen times?

If you are one of those SATC fans who is using the release of this sequel, whether it is truly the death of the series or not, as an excuse to shop for anything and everything – make sure to take note of some of these events:

Limited Edition SATC2 Makeup Brush Set Giveaway
When:Friday, May 21
Where: Macy’s
Herald Square, New York – at the Fragrance Bar
Why:Purchase $100 worth of stuff storewide and get some limited edition makeup brushes. Cool! Now you can look old and airbrushed too!
Decadestwo and Hautelook sponsored Sex and the City Shopping Soiree
When: May 21 10 am – 7 pm
Where: It's so amazing and exclusive that it's still a secret!
Why: Essentially, the shopping event of your dreams. Four closets, one super-glam apartment and designer clothing galore. Everyone knows that their husband/siblings/parents/roommates will understand when you come home with a giant bag of shoes – you simply just have to explain with an "I had to – Charlotte was wearing these shoes (or whatever your vice may be) in that scene where she fell off the Camel." Trust us, all will be forgiven.

Ultimately, we should all be thanking Miranda, Carrie, Samantha and Charlotte for giving us girls a chance to drinkdrinkdrink, pamper ourselves and shop, all in the name of Sex. But there's really no need to overdo it –  it's probably better to skip the dive bars and SATC tourist traps and stick to something simple with a more exclusive guest list, like the Bergdorf after party. But, if you insist on doing the touristy thing (dont worry, we wont tell) check this out!

Midnight Madness With Willie Garson
When: Wed, May 26  6:00 pm – 2:00 am
Where: On Location Tours, 10 West 37 St, New York, NY
Why: The madness begins with SATC hotspot tours – and a run-in with Willie Garson is promised. Plus, you get dinner at Fresco by Sotto, a private midnight showing of the film and VIP admission to Marquee. Sounds like a girl's night out to us. [GUEST OF A GUEST]

BRITTANY MURPHY HUSBAND DEAD SIMON MONJACK FOUND DEAD IN LA HOME

Actress Brittany Murphy’s husband has died. The clueless star’s hubby was found dead in the couple’s Hollywood Hills home. Brittany tragically died 5 months ago from cardiac arrest.

The British husband of tragic actress Brittany Murphy died last night at the Hollywood Hills home the couple once shared.

Despite attempts to resuscitate him by the emergency services, screenwriter Simon Monjack was pronounced dead following a suspected heart attack on his 40th birthday.

It comes just five months after Clueless star Brittany, 32, died in his arms after collapsing in the shower at their home.

Monjack’s death was initially investigated by the Los Angeles police department, but the case was closed when they found no signs of foul play or suicide.

The preliminary cause of death is natural causes, with cardiac arrest suspected.

Sudden death: Monjack died of a suspected heart attack

Monjack’s ill health was highlighted in November when he suffered a suspected mild heart attack on board a flight from Puerto Rico to Los Angeles.

Monjack was given oxygen during the flight before being rushed to hospital when paramedics boarded the aircraft and found him unconscious.

Last night a 911 call was made by Brittany’s mother Sharon Murphy, who found Monjack in the master bedroom.

Murphy, who lived with the couple, also discovered her daughter’s body in the en suite of the same room on December 20.

Monjack later recalled how he tried to administer CPR in vain, then kissed his wife goodbye after she passed away.

A large amount of prescription drugs were found in the home, although Monjack claimed many of these were simply out of date medications.

After Brittany's death Monjack caused controversy when he tried to persuade investigators not to have a post-mortem carried out on her body.

He said he couldn’t bear the idea of having his wife’s body cut open, and  called the coroner relentlessly – but to no avail.

His actions led to widespread internet rumours he was involved in her death, which he angrily denied.

In February an inquest found Brittany died from pneumonia complicated by an iron deficiency, anaemia and multiple drug intoxication.

Coroners officials said she had gone into sudden cardiac arrest because of drug intake. Her death was classified as an accident.

Monjack kept Brittany’s clothes and belongings as they were, unable to bear the thought of getting rid of any of them.

He also took care of Brittany’s puppy Calara, despite admitting he was not a dog lover.

Monjack told reporters the couple had been planning for the future.

‘We were going to have children and move to New York next year,’ he said. ‘The night before she died we were deciding baby names and said if it was a boy it was going to be Oliver and if it was a girl, Sophie.’

Whirlwind romance: Brittany married Monjack soon after meeting him in 2007

Earlier this year Monjack launched a charitable fund – along with Murphy’s mother – in the name of his late wife, with an event at which guests were asked to give thousands of dollars.

However within a few days it emerged that it had not been registered as a not-for-profit body and the Brittany Murphy Foundation offered to refund donors.

Brittany, who appeared in films which grossed $100million (£62million) before she and Monjack met, shot to fame in the 1995 blockbuster Clueless, starring alongside Alicia Silverstone.

She was also cast in Eminem’s 8 Mile in 2002 before landing a role in Just Married the following year. [DAILYMAIL UK]

Thai film Uncle Boonmee is Cannes winner

The Cannes Film Festival is a huge deal in France—comparable to what the Oscars are in the United States. An estimated 30,000 media, publicists, other festival directors, and a slew of support staff double the size of the small coastal town. All week, news programs have been laced with Cannes reports and last night there were at least three different hour-long programs recapping the Festival. The closing-night ceremony is televised nationwide and thousands gather outside the Palace (anywhere else the bunker would be called a convention center) to catch a glimpse of the stars. (You can get a idea of who will win the awards by looking at who is still around by then, since participants are encouraged to stay in the area.)

This year's M.C. was Kristin Scott Thomas and she, like the entire program, was smoother than any in years. She first introduced the Canadian director and Cannes veteran Atom Egoyan, president of short films jury, who gave the Prix du Jury (second place) to Frida Kempff for her Bathing Micky and then the Palme d'Or to Serge Avedikian for his animated film Barking Island.

The next on stage was Gael Garcia Bernal, president of the jury for the Camera d'Or, the award given for best first feature among the films in competition and the twenty-plus films in the sidebar programs such as Un Certain Regard. This year the pool consisted of 24 films and Bernal, with his megawatt smile, assured the audience that "the future of cinema is bright" before presenting the award to Michael Rowe for his film Año Bisiesto.

Finally, it was time for the Palme d'Or competition's jury to file on stage. First came the president, director Tim Burton, looking beyond casual with his unshaven face, a loose fitting black suit and tie (contrasting with the tuxedos and bow ties of most of the audience), gray socks and comfortable shoes. Even that appeared too much for Burton, who kept running his fingers under his collar as if to loosen it.

He took the microphone to say he hadn't realized Cannes would be so full of "family films. Not in the Disney sense," but in terms of so many movies that focused on investigating domestic lives and relationships. An apt point, but one that went over the heads of the predominantly French audience, more used to character-driven films than we Americans with our super heroes and computer-generated explosions. With that, Burton introduced the group "who has become my new family," the other jurors: Benicio del Toro, Spanish director Victor Erice, Indian director and actor Shekhar Kapur, and Italy's director of the National Museum of Cinema, Alberto Barbera. France was represented by the composer Alexander Desplat and the writer and director Emmanuel Carrere, while the only two women were actresses: the British Kate Beckinsale and the Italian Giovanna Mezzogiorno.

The ceremony began in earnest as various presenters announced each category, saying a few words and then turning the mic over to Burton to announce the winners. [VANITY FAIR]
