Amanda Seyfried: Self Magazine June 2010 (Pictures) Posted: 23 May 2010 11:18 AM PDT Amanda Seyfried is sizzling on the cover of Self Magazine for June 2010 Edition and she has also given an interview to the magazine where she talked about fitness, life in Hollywood, having a bad day, how she takes advice and much more. Here are some of the highlights of the interview:- On having a bad day: "For a simple bad day, I would say go for a good coffee break with nature. I like to go hiking. Or have a drink at a friend's house. I think it's important to either be with people who love you for who you are and not what you do, or to be with yourself in a place where your existence doesn't matter much. Knowing yourself, who you are and what you want are important. I know that I need my relationships to be consistent. In a world, and especially in an industry, where things are so unreliable, the people in my life are most important. Sharing and loving and laughing and understanding with them is what makes me happy. And my dog. I feel immediately better when I pick him up." On sacrificing career for a man: "I wouldn't sacrifice your entire career for a man, but if you've made that move, you can't question it. Work with it. Tryto establish career contacts in the new place and make the best of it. I don't know if moving for your man is the best idea, but clearly there's something about this man that you need in your everyday life; you connect deeply, and that's a beautiful thing. I just moved to New York from Los Angeles. I would have liked to live in London [where boyfriend and Mamma Mia! costar Dominic Cooperlives], but I felt it was better to be closer to my grandmothers, who are in Pennsylvania. They have always been a huge part of my life, and the longer I was in L.A., the harder it was. New York's a happy medium. But after I bought my apartment, I had buyer's remorse. I got scared. Then I was like, Stupid! It's already done! I'm going to be happy with this decision. Living in regret is pointless!" On where she goes for advice: "Well, first, for immediate gratification, eat some Ben & Jerry's Phish Food. The call someone who knows you. Not everybody is blessed with great parents, but I'll call my best friend or sister or mother and get perspective. Then, if the person or thing you love is creating problems for you or making you unhappy for the long-term, you either have to communicate your feelings and make the situation better or end it. The things in your life that you usually enjoy aren't supposed to make you more sad than not." On diet and exercise: "I work out with someone who makes it fun. Three days a week, I train with Harley Pasternak, who kicks my ass for 45 minutes. My legs are superstrong. I love it! I used to live, eat and sleep by an exercise schedule, and I couldn't enjoy myself if I didn't exercise. And then I realized, What a waste of time! My soft parts are probably never going away, but I do feel better when I'm fitter. So I run for about half an hour five days a week. On the weekends, I do pilates, which is all about stretching and toning my stomach and being long and lean. And eating? Moderation is key. I just did a five-day raw-food diet, but I'll never do that again. It's really hard! I'd wake up in the morning feeling great and go to bed feeling miserable, because dinner would be cucumbers, kale and dressing. I mean, at the end of the day, if you can't have a Girl Scout cookie and a piece of cheese, what is life all about?" On having confidence in Hollywood: "Remember, nobody's perfect. In Hollywood, people may seem perfect, but that's because they spend thousands on trainers and diets and surgeries. We're made to feel as if we're supposed to look like that, but it's not realistic at all. If you have a negative body image, exercise, but not for your appearance. The main thing you can change is how you perceive yourself. Stop looking in the mirror and realize that you're living for yourself, not other people. If we're so busy trying to change ourselves, especially aesthetically, we're going to miss out on other, bigger things. When I see a scene in a movie where my belly sticks out, I'm like, That doesn't look good. But then, in a later shot, I still have a pudgy belly. What are the chances of me having a six-pack for the next movie? Slim to none. But staying in shape is healthy and important, and endorphins are a godsend!" On making it: "I've been an up-and-comer for so long. Now everybody is telling me that I'm having "a moment." I'm like, "All right, how long does that last?" It's not always about being appreciated but about appreciating what you have. Life is like a game: If you're still working at it, then you've won. Stay on that path. Every little step you take is an accomplishment. Remember, be realistic, but don't stop being optimistic!"
