ELLE WOMEN IN HOLLYWOOD AWARDS PHOTOS HILARY SWANK, GWYNETH PALTROW, KATE HUDSON, DIANE KRUGER, ANNA KENDRICK

Hollywood celebrated the contributions of women to the entertainment industry. Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Hilary Swank, Diane Kruger and Anna Kendrick were among the young Hollywood stars who attended the awards ceremony.

The glitzy ceremony paid tribute to the female stars for their impact on the film industry, and others who received a nod included

Jodie Foster, Diane Keaton, Sofia Coppola and Kerry Washington.

Paltrow was presented with her prize by her Proof co-star Jake Gyllenhaal, who took the stage and told the crowd about working with the multi-talented actress.

He said, “Bottom line, she is not a mere mortal like the rest of us… She is an internet-savvy, award-winning, lifestyle guru, making all of us look lazy. She doesn’t just find a nice guy to settle down with – she marries a rock star and then domesticates him. She doesn’t just cook – she goes to Spain with Mario Batali and then domesticates him! She is not just a lifestyle guru, but she invents a whole new fitness movement and then convinces me to try it, and I do it, and I am, therefore, domesticated… sweating my a** off in spandex, which is humbling and embarrassing.”

One of the male guests at the event, Harrison Ford, admitted he was overwhelmed by the star-studded ceremony, because it serves as proof that women have secured their place as major players in Hollywood.

He tells the Associated Press, “(This event) came to be back in the days when they said, ‘There were no good parts for women’ and ‘Women aren’t highly regarded.’ (Now) women run Hollywood. Absolutely run Hollywood. And I’m glad.”

Foster, who is set to make her directorial debut with new Mel Gibson movie The Beaver, hopes to see more female directors gaining prominence in the movie industry.

She says, “It’s women directors that are the last hurdle, and we haven’t jumped over that. Now we have women studio executives, we have women producers. And, for some reason, that hasn’t really translated into much gains for women (directors).” [STAR]

KANYE WEST BANNED ALBUM COVER + RUNAWAY MUSIC VIDEO PREMIERE DETAILS

Kanye West attended the Hollywood premiere of the 40 minute short film for his highly anticipated “Runaway” music video. The rapper was joined by Ashley Simpson, Pete Wentz and hip hop artist Teyana Taylor.  The music video is scheduled to air on MTV on Oct. 23 at 8pm. The hip hop star is facing a new scandal after the album cover for his latest opus “My Beautiful Dark  Twisted Fantasy” was banned in the United States.

Kanye West is no stranger to controversy, as he has spent his entire career letting his big personality loose while rarely exercising restraint. He has seen massive crowds turn on him (remember the incident at Bonnaroo in 2008?), put out an envelope-pushing but alienating album (808s & Heartbreak) and alienated much of the pop universe when he dropped in on Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. But he has rarely been actually censored, which is what he appears to currently be dealing with in regards to the cover for his eagerly anticipated album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

The image, created by artist George Condo (who also dreamed up the cover to the “Power” single), features a twisted version of a man (West himself?) straddled by a nude female creature with wings and no arms. It’s strange, intriguing and looks like modern art, which is exactly what West must have been looking for. [MTV]

WILLOW SMITH DEBUTS WHIP MY HAIR MUSIC VIDEO ON 106 & PARK

Willow Smith stopped by the 106 & Park set to premiere the music video for her hit song “Whip My Hair”.  The 9 year old pop star was brought to tears when she was presented with a plaque to celebrate the success of her debut single. Awww! Watch the Whip My Hair music video and Willow’s music vid appearance on BET.  The pint sized pop star is scheduled to make her live performance debut on the Ellen show. She’s only nine years old but Willow Smith has just released a music video to rival the works of her rapper father, Will Smith.

In “Whip My Hair,” the pre-teen diva introduces a 21st century version of head banging as she whips her various hair styles — long braids, heart-shaped Mohawk, back-combed pouf — throughout the video.

With two diamonds on her lips, Willow enters the scene with a juke box in a white-washed room that looks like a prison canteen but turns out to be a classroom. Switching on her jukebox with blinged up nails, she dips her tresses in some paint and proceeds to whip them around the room to turn it into a multi-colored confection.

“Doesn’t matter if it’s long or short, whip your hair,” she sings as she throws her little head around.

The sentiment harks back to the “I Love My Hair” song that recently premiered on “Sesame Street,” in which a brown Muppet – representing an African-American girl – sings about how great her hair is. A viral video mash up has already been released in which the Muppet appears to sing Willow’s new single.

Willow is currently signed to Jay-Z‘s record label, Roc Nation, and her first album — release date TBA — will no doubt be a hit considering her high profile support network, including Justin Bieber. [NYDN]

Missy Elliott was honored as a positive role model at the 2010 Black Girls Rock Awards. The rapper was presented with the prize from Ciara. Raven Simone, Ruby Dee and Keke Palmer were also honored for their career achievements. The BGR ceremony was hosted by Nia Long and will air on BET in November. Performers Keyshia Cole, Jill Scott, Estelle, Fantasia, Keri Hilson and Ciara helped celebrate positive role models.
